More data about Social Media Trends

Fox Interactive Media - and about half a dozen other companies - conducted a study to determine the value of social media for marketers. Sampling 3,000 US internet users, they discovered…

  • More than 70% of Americans 15-34 are actively using social networks online, and the research showed social networking sites taking a strong foothold in the primetime hours.
  • 31% of online social networkers claim they spend more time on the Web in general after starting to use a social network.
  • Brands such as adidas and Electronic Arts attributed more than 70% of their marketing return on investment to the “Momentum Effect.”

That “Momentum Effect” is a cute term coined by the study to define “the impact of a brand within a social network beyond traditional advertising impressions to encompass the “pass along” power of consumer-to-consumer communication.” In other words, viral marketing, tipping point, word of mouth, etc.

Apple battery problems patch (nothing to do with the blog subject, bu it´ll helps u :))

Apple Issues Battery Update For Macbook and MBP Notebooks

Apple has addressed the Macbook and Macbook Pro notebook performance issues, but Apple says you don’t need to worry about exploding batteries. If you purchased either notebook or an extra battery between February 2007 and April 2007 then download the latest patch. How do I identify an affected battery?

Affected batteries will have one or more of the following symptoms:

* Battery is not recognized causing an “X” to appear in the battery icon in the Finder menu bar.
* Battery will not charge when computer is plugged into AC power.
* Battery exhibits low charge capacity/runtime when using a fully charged battery with a battery cycle count (as shown in System Profiler) of less than 300.
* Battery pack is visibly deformed.

Note: If your MacBook or MacBook Pro battery does not have any of the symptoms noted above, your battery does not need to be replaced. Apple will also be covering those notebooks that are out of warranty.

Social Network rises, TV Watching decreases

As Social Networking Rises, TV Watching Decreases

A new study from Marketing Evolution (commissioned by MySpace, Isobar & Carat) suggests social networking users between 14 and 40 years old are increasing their internet, email and instant messaging usage, while decreasing the amount of time they spend watching TV and playing video games.

Ok, which genius thought it would be a good idea to measure the habits of teenagers, and those approaching their mid-life crisis, in the same data set? How many 40 year olds do you know that play video games? (go ahead “out” them in the comments section).

Twitter taken down in Australia

Twitter Taken Down In Australia

Twitter has reported that they’ll be temporarily suspending their service via SMS in Australia, due to the high operation cost for both Twitter and the end users.

As Twitter sorts out the details on getting a new access number, they’ve stopped making their SMS option available to those guys down under. This is a short term solution, and reminds us that offering a mobile service still means dealing with the phone carriers and service providers, and all the limitations therein. Twitter hasn’t indicated any more specifics for suspending SMS service to Australians, but plans to bring it back–hopefully soon.

Ben Barren, an Austrailian blogger, was none to happy regarding Twitter’s decision, but found that his Twitter service still works in some form and fashion (there are a few layout and design malfunctions). Whether or not this is some sort of loophole and is dependent on the type of mobile service data plan you have is unclear at this point. Needless to say, a frustrated Barren was happy to read Mashable to find out that Bebo now offers a Twitter-like update function that he is still privy to, and can use on the go.

PEPSI ACCES

BBDO created a subway poster that has a fully functional headphonejack imbedded in it, which plays samples of various exclusive tracksavailable at pepsiaccess.ca. There are close to 100 posters playing 12different tracks running in Toronto and Vancouver from now until theend of
summer.

Every Pepsi comes with a PIN, which can be redeemed for access toultra-exclusive music, concerts, events, etc. at pepsiaccess.ca. Thisposter plays a 30 second track sample of “Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley. After an announcer says: “That was a taste of an exclusive track fromGnarls Barkley. Check out pepsiaccess.ca for more.”

Great idea.

Bebo What are u doing

Bebo Clones Twitter, Blatantly

Twitter is being assimilated into other social networks extremely quickly - not only did Facebook just upgrade its status updates to do much the same thing, but now Bebo has launched a feature that also emulates Twitter’s functionality. The name of the feature is “What are You Doing?”, which Twitter users will recognize as the Twitter slogan. Subtle. ;)

Bebo’s “What are You Doing” provides 140 characters (same as Twitter) in which to say what you are doing, plus a countdown to say how many characters you have left. There’s an aggregated page that shows all the messages from around your network, too. All that’s missing: SMS integration. However, Bebo has already partnered with an SMS service for the creation of the Veronica’s Widget, and I don’t imagine they’ll have trouble adding SMS support if the feature takes off (which it certainly will).

The nature of innovation is that everyone borrows from everyone else, so where is the line drawn?
