Jaiku’s New Mobile App to be Unveiled at Supernova

Jaiku, the other microblogging service, is unveiling its new mobile application at the Supernova 2007 conference in San Francisco next week. This is an effort to bring the full web experience of Jaiku to mobile phones.

In doing so, Jaiku has incorporated some familiar web navigation functionality for the mobile version. There are tabs at the top of the screen that are easily toggled using your phone’s arrows. You can also get the mobile phone and web status of those on your contact list, indicating who’s got their phone on silent, and who’s currently on a call, etc. You’ll also have a gray dot next to contacts names that have new updates for you to read.

You’ll also be able to indicate your location, which could be incorporated with GPS technology in the future. For now, you enter in your own location if you wish to do so. Jaiku mobile will tell you which of your friends are nearby. When viewing a friend’s information page, you’ll be able to see how long ago they used their mobile phone, and even their friends that are nearby. You’ll also have the option of showing a schedule of sorts, indicating what time during the day you’ll be available to socialize.

Other improvements come in the form of navigation and the ease in which post and comments threads are accessed across contacts. These updates are currently available for Nokia phones. Jaiku has also teamed up with Nokia on another front, with the creation of its WidSets widget. In related news, eBuddy has also launched a new mobile version of its messaging service.
